United Way NE Minnesota Wildfire Recovery Grants: $2,500 to $10,000 for Small Businesses, Apply by August 10
United Way of Northeastern Minnesota is accepting wildfire recovery applications from local small businesses affected by the July 2026 Lightning Incident. Eligible businesses can request $2,500 to $10,000 for recovery expenses, with applications due by 11:59 p.m. on August 10, 2026.
What the Funding Covers
Small business grants must be used for business expenses tied to wildfire recovery.
- Payroll
- Rent
- Utilities
- Supplier payments
- Equipment
Who Can Apply
Businesses must be located in or between Babbitt, Buyck, Cook, Crane Lake, Ely, Embarrass, Nett Lake, Orr, Soudan, Tower, or Winton.
- The business must have losses from the July 2026 Lightning Incident.
- The business must be in good standing with the Minnesota Secretary of State.
- The business must use available insurance.
- The business must plan to reopen.
How Applications Will Be Reviewed
A panel of UWNEMN board and community members will review applications confidentially. Reviewers must sign conflict of interest forms.
How to Apply
- Deadline: 11:59 p.m. on August 10, 2026
- Expected distribution: Funds are expected to be distributed by August 17, 2026
